Blizzak vs. Others
I never run winter tires, last winters I just use my old beat up normal tires.
But this year i want 2 winter tires for the front of my civic.
Are the blizzaks the best winter tire in this category? thoughts and opinions welcome
other tire i looked at is the continental extremewintercontact since they are fairly cheap.

Only advice I have to offer on the subject is, don't just run 2 winter tires, run 4 instead. Failure to do so can lead to problematic handling scenarios.
i have only ran blizzaks i have a set on my civic and i had a set on my old svt focus.i live over a huge mountain in wv and where it's outside of city limits it don't get cleaned at all in the winter and i had not one problem getting out with either.
The rest of the tire industry has pretty much caught up to Bridgestone in the last few seasons, so there is not as big a difference between them as there used to be. I'd have you look at our recent tests (Here) to see how close they really are to one another. I would not try and talk you out of the Conti's or the Dunlop's if you were interested.......
and yes, 4 is the only way to go thru ice and snow.... just 2 snow tires can get you started in the right direction but the all season tire would not be able to keep up when turning....

Blizzaks are amazing tires IMO, but can wear out fast in "dry" weather. i used them in my Nissan 240sx for 2 winter that happened to be pretty wet (WA) and took them off as soon as weather got better. Id get them again for my Civic but they arent available in my stock tire size so im going witht the Winter force.
Yep, you should really run 4 tires. I have General Altimax Arctic tires and I love them. They perform really well in the snow and are cheaper than Blizzaks.
