Default coolant temp sensor and no start

dropped a d16 mini me (y7/y8) in a 96 coupe and have yet to get it running due to other problems that have come up.

my latest, and probably last problem is still causing no start.

i bought an obd scan tool to work with torque(android app) and pulled p0117

read the intake air temperature and its at ~74 degrees

however the coolant temp sensor is putting out 419 degrees. i had another running y8 so i pulled the sensor out of it and replaced the "bad" one

and the car ran for about 1-2 seconds. now i cant get it to run again

plugged my scan tool back in and got the same code, and the same temp reading.

im pretty sure if the sensor is telling the computer that the coolant temp is 419 then i absolutely know the fuel mixture is stupid lean, and probably my reason for not being able to get this engine running.

my next question is why are both sensors doing to same thing? is there an associated component i need to look at?

Default Re: coolant temp sensor and no start

You can manually test the coolant temp sensor with an multi meter to be sure.
