I guess I have a K24, all I know is 2.4 liters and i-VTEC.

Ill throw you my best guess. I would undo all the valve lash adjustments that you did. Possibly it could be the valves binding because they weren't adjusted when the motor was hot. If thats not it then i would make sure that the car is in neutral lol. Just my 2 cents

The trans. is in Park and the emissions sticker under the hood specifies valve clearances be checked cold.

 

I would NEVER EVER recommend you adjust your rockers with the motor HOT. Thats a big no no...

Your binding could possibly be your chain? When the motor is not running, you are getting no oil pressure to the tensioner making it seem like the chain is loose, well it is. So its possible the chain is binding when rotating.

I wouldnt suspect valve problems as the car ran like you said. Unless you adjusted the lash way to tight causing the valve to come in contact with the piston. Hopefully thats not what you've done.

That was a typo, i meant to say when they "were" hot, i was thinking and typing to different things. And i would have to agree with the chain thing. I forgot that the K24 is one of the only honda motors with a timing chain instead of a belt. They also have a self adjusting tensionor. This could very well be what is giving you problems.

 

The first thing that came to mind when it happened was the tensioner because of the time it sat. I have never seen a hydraulic cam chain tensioner that didn't also have an internal spring to keep pressure against the chain when the engine is not running. Maybe this one has a spring that is marginally weak and allows a little slack, and the chain is bunching around the drive sprocket and jamming against a guide or... ?

The not knowing is what's driving me nuts.

I have the utmost confidence in my valve adjustment, though. I've done lots and lots of 'em over the years, screw type, shim under bucket, sohc, dohc, even desmodromic.

Friday is the first opportunity I'll have to get back at it.

Today I rechecked everything I did last weekend. I couldn't find anything wrong, yes it did it again. Spun over fine fast, stuck when turned slowly.

Sooo I focused on the spins over fast fine part, put it back together and started it. Lit right up and purred like the finely engineered piece it is.

It bugs the **** out of me that I can't explain what was causing it to lock up, but I'm very happy it runs fine!
