Default 95 Odyssey Won't Start at Times

Out of the blue, the thing won't start - no noises under dash - no nothing. Then, by moving shift lever from Park to D1 and back (many times) it will fire up and run great. When this problem occurs, the dash shift lights will be wrong - car will be in Park but Light on shift indicator will say D4. We are giving this car to my daughter who lives far away and we need to fix it before she comes to pick it up. Any clues on where to start? Thanks in advance for your help.

Could be starter or brake pedal switch. Check both.

i would say check the gearbok selector switch (i think thats wat its called). its the switch that tells the ecu what gear the car is in and makes the lil light on the cluster come on
