Just do turbo...With a supercharger you have to lose power in your lower rpms to gain in your higher rpm...With turbo and hondata you can set your turbos spool at 3000 rpms and by the time you launch its already spooled up..Look in Augusts issue of Honda Tuning...GSR with Vortech Racing Supercharger did 14.9...That what I do with a b18b in a 96 civic...Turbo is cheaper too...You dont have to worry about headers, intake etc..

All the info I've seen on the Vortech SC for tegs, is unimpressive. The JRSC is allot better option for a daily driver. I'd scratch the Vortech and look into the JRSC or turbo.

some magazine....i forgot which one.....might have been Honda Tuning.....but don't take my word for it....neways they had a guy that put an vortech sc on a gsr and only ran in the 15s.....if i am not mistaken a good driver that shifts well and fast can take a gsr there with basic bolt-on mods....I/H/E. maybe even just intake. they made all sort of excuses like oh his tires were crappy and didn't offer enought grip.... he wasn't using slicks....his suspension wasn't setup for drag. his *** was too heavy....he dropped his ***** on the way to the track......ya know what i said?? SHUT THE F#&^#@K UP!!! from what i heard, the hp and tq #s were pretty good but the time sucked.....they were like "well the trap speed was good".

The one dyno plot I've seen a Vortech charged GSR looked stock untill the very last breath, then it looked like mt Everest. Very peaky.

i was originally going to go turbo, and still like turbo more than sc on hondas, but i know i can't afford all of it...building the block, hondata, turbokit, there's just so much more to a turbo than sc.

There are extras with SC too. Particularly ones w/o aftercoolers(JRSC), coincidentally the only one worthwhile for tegs right now. Neither are cheap, and both would benefit from a Hondata. Boost is boost to your internals, they don't care where the pressure comes from, so you're just as likely to damage internals with a JRSC as you are with turbo at the same PSI. The horror stories from turbo users are largely from people who can't resist cranking up the boost on stock internals.

The Vortech Supercharger is all peak power. The curve suxors!!!
The JRSC makes less peak power but has a nice fat curve *hint hint*

i'm positive i'm not gonna have the money to go turbo. 3k for the kit. 1k for extras, 1k for internal work, 1.5k-2k for install...ha, where am i gonna come up with that kind of money? ugh i wish i could go turbo. god damn why do they have to cost so damn much.

I feel ya bro. I wouldn't be doing 1/2 of what I do with my car if I had to pay for labor. A turbo system really is not all that complex, there must be good profit margins in them. There are a few important components, but if you look at a kit closely it's mostly just tubing. You could assemble a turbo out of parts purchased over time. Another option would be Greddy's kit. It's sans intercooler, so it's substantially cheaper...$1750ish. Now if you got that then you could run it at LOW boost levels on stock internals to evaluate it. If you like it, then add an intercooller, and buildup your bottom end later. Just a thought. I'm thinking about picking up an LS/GS/RS in a year or two to monkey with a turbo on.

thanks for the input, what boost is possible to run at w/o an intercooler? i'm assuming 5-6 lbs?...also, when i save up that extra 1k for the ic, will i need new piping to accomodate the intercooler, or will i just have to take out one pipe and bolt the ic up?

Vortech SCs are dyno queens, nothing more.

2k gsr. jrsc with boost upgrade. thermal catback, aem ram air, kamakazie 4-1, jdmhondapart cam gears, and one hour on the dyno with a great tuner. there are pics at b-swarm.com

I would stay @ or below 6lbs. The JRSC guys get away with more sans inter/aftercooller, but I believe the JRSC will generate less heat in the intake charge than a turbo will w/o an intercooller. As to the piping you'd have to question someone selling Greddy kits to get a definitive answer to that question. The piping is not all that expensive at any rate, it carries pressurized air afterall.
