best way to mantain a new hood w/o rust
hi, i crash my civic 96 and buy a 97 bare shell mint condition. But the trade are without the carbon fiber hood and a few things (engine, rims). Ok so i finish put my ls/vtec turbo and rims, buy a new OEM hood but at this time i'm a little short of cash, what is the best way to mantain the hood free of rust
for a while and not with grey primer, something black shining.
thanks

Factory hoods come in a black coating called e-coat. This coating is generally fairly weather resistant. If you want a gloss black put on it, take it to a paint shop. You could get it painted gloss black for pretty cheap, especially if it is brand new in box with factory e-coat. All they need to do is scuff and shoot with a single stage. Shouldn't cost more than 200$.
Yes is new in box with the black coating. A guy i know ask me $50 and i buy
the materials,he say it's no more than $40. but i want to wait till i can respray
all the car. So you think maybe 3 months it's fine with the e-coat?

Are you planning on painting it the same color as your car? Even if you are, I think it would be better to paint it now. You can get gloss black paint for like $40 from thecoatingstore.com and it would include everything you need to paint a hood. Hoods are much easier to paint off the car. While e-coat would probably be fine for 3 months, I think it would be wise to paint it now, especially if you are planning on leaving it black.
Even if it costs a few bucks more in the long run, I'd paint the hood now. If you dont do it now, and starts to develop some rust, youll pay more when you go to have the entire car painted because of more labor involved.
