Default How you cut 90 degree elbows??? :)

Hi

So, wanted to ask this public... How do you cut 90 degree elbows for your fabrications? Do you use some kind of jig? Pictures of it?

Cause I've been having hard time cutting elbows... I have a HF type bandsaw - 4x6"... the vice is just not good enough to hold down elbows when cutting. One blade just snapped on me because of this Also can't seem to find a way how to cut of 15 degress of a 30 degree elbow... just can't see a way to clamp it down to get that cut...

So yeah, maybe you use some kind of clamping jigs????

Either way, hope you do, and you'll be kind enough to show off what you use

Thanks

What angles are you trying to cut?

I only use 90,60,45, and 30 degree elbows. IMO You should figure out how to make two fixtures. One cuts a 90 into 45/45 and the other should cut a 90 into a 60/30.

Please don't take this the wrong way but you are a fabricator right? It should be cake to design and weld something to hold an elbow at those two angles. Keep in mind the simplest way to make something is probably the best way.

I would show you my cutting fixtures but they are pretty ugly, haha. Does the job though.

Just play around with it, I'm sure you will figure it out

Yes, I use the same angles - 90/60/45/30, and sometimer 75 which will be crucial to me I have idea how to make fixturing, just wanted to see what others use, maybe get a good idea of that or something

Thanks

I have shown you the fixture before. the clamp on your saw should hold it in place all sandwich like.

cut a size bigger elbow lengthwise and make a pivoting clamp for it.

Diagram here:
blue is where the arms of your bandsaw hold the fixture in (parts where it touches)
red is the elbow you cut lengthwise
green is the cutting plane

Looking down on it from above:

This only cuts in two planes. straight angles and the angle that your bandsaw can cut.
