Whats this engine?
Was just wondering what engine would be in an EU1 2002 JDM Civic 5dr Hatch. All I know is that it is 1,500cc and VTEC, and could possibly be a D15Y2 (from wikipedia) but there is no info on that particular engine; maybe it doesn't even exist?

Thanks in advance.

Its actually a 1.6L (1590 cc's), its the D16W9
It was featured in the 2001–2005 Honda Civic VTi, commonly found in the Middle East and Philippines.
the D15Y2 was Non-Vtec
But the pic you provided is most certainly 100% the D16W9

Would that come in a Japan market car though. This engine is in several fresh Japan imports here registered and advertised as 1500cc, they're just your standard base Civic model. Also, the redline on the tach is set at 6800rpm, not 7200rpm as in the D16W9.
Mystery solved. I finally got to have a look at the engine block code, and it states D15B. Seems odd that its not documented anywhere that the 2002 Civic came with this engine.
This EU1 civic is as JDM as it gets so you're really going to have to dig in to the internet. Correct its a D15B v-tech engine putting out about 115-130 HP. It's not a stream because streams come with the K-engines.Duh it's engraved on the block so it exists.D17's come in the later models civic. chek D-engines on wiki.....

First off all why would you put an cvt tranny in your civic when everyone swaps them out?
It's because of this i don't own this car anymore. sold it and bought me a integra. much cheaper to do all kinds off stuff on it. i wanted a manual tranny in my Eu1 and it would cost me $1300......way to much for me. i bought the teggy and put in a manual for only $400....doing anything on that civic would be to much work and to much money. you could pimp it or something but leave it at that

That was an error. I'm about to do a manual transmission swap. I ordered a EP3 shifter online, so I'm trying to decide between ordering a ES1 or EM gearbox to fit neatly in my chassis. I'm pondering which shifter cables to buy to pair them both (to the correct length).
To answer the original thread. The EU1 comes with the D15Y4 producing 115hp on VTEC-E.
The block is a modified JDM D15B with a new bellhousing and engine mounting points to be compatible with the civic EP1 and EP2.
The earlier Honda streams also came with the D17A2 engine.
I did an auto to manual conversion on my EU1 (including a manual ECU swap) and the engine's characteristics have improved significantly. I want to change cams next and call it a day.

Since the installation of the manual gearbox, my car climbs hills really quickly once I keep the momentum going.
