Default Transmission question. M2u4 SH tranny gear set into other h22 or f series tranny?

Ok so I know everyone says to avoid the m2u4 as its a atts tranny. Well the only different I find from the m2l5 from a f22 92 prelude s to the m2u4 from a 98 prelude sh is the differential isnt a differential. However the final drive ratios are exactly identical so wouldnt I be able to swap the gear cluster complete into the f series tranny? This would take care of the driver side axel issue.

The reason for me doing this is my second gear on the m2l5 has a grind and pop out and is pretty bad and the input shaft bearing is going bad (noisy). I have already practiced tear down multiple time with the m2u4 transmission and assembled it a few times quite easily. I picked the tranny up for 40 bucks because it would go into reverse but the only problem was is the reverse shift fork was bent but I replaced it from a spare 90 accord tranny I have and now it works beautifully. I already inspected all the snychro bands and they all have propper clearances and surfaces are clean.

Last question I have is one of the gear teeth on second gear on the input shaft is half gone like it cracked off but the rest of the teeth look fine and there arent any significant wear marks. I have heard of people running gears like this with no problems do you think I will be ok?

Please give me any info to help as i want to do this before my tranny completely fails.

Ok so whats different on the counter shaft? Cause I figured the only thing that would change is the primary final drive gear but only if the final drive is a different ratio. The 92 prelude S tranny and 98 SH tranny have the exact same final drive.

Im talking about swapping shafts and all into the f series case and using the shifting mechanism from the f series as well and keeping the original diff. Would I be about to swap the differential outter gear? Im planning on doing this soon but the prelude is my daily driver so I only got a couple days so I am trying to make sure I know everything to expect.

I do agree with you but that is the reason I am now here. I could find any info on the counter shaft being any different or number for that matter. I am also asking in hope of finding someone who has actually put there hands on the parts rather then relying just on numbers so that way when i do tear into it there are far fewer suprises.

Anyone else? Any help is greatly appreciated.

Hello H22paower,

I recently discovered I chewed up 2 gear on the main and countershaft of my H2u5 tranny. I was wondering could I swapp out the shafts with a M2u4 or any other prelude tranny. I am not looking to race but would like to have better performance. I have a 91 honda accord ex. I believe the engine is F22A1. Thanks.
