Default d16z6 confusion soo many issues

ok so i just bought a 93 civic si with stock motor d16z6 all stock everything

so my car smokes on start up bt not at regular driving speed or wot

my car feels like it lags at low rpm until like 2500 rpm

compression tested: around 200 all across plus or minus 5 psi

i read your supposed to test at wot so i got that reading of 200 but without aot i got a mix of 150 100 180 100

just put brand new spark plugs in and in less than a week they are already black with residue on them

smells like running rich but i passed smog but used 2 cats * edited

im sorry for the bad post still new to the site

please help

thanks in advance

I don't know if you did the tests right but it sounds like your engine is about kaput. Those readings are all over the place.

What color is the exhaust smoke at start up? Sounds like the engine is running rich.

Any CEL codes? Have you done a tune up (plugs, wires, cap, rotor, ignition timing)?

With numbers like those, you can either have a blown headgasket or non existent rings...like marc said, the engine is probably done. Again, correct me if I`m wrong, but you have two options to fix it, pay about $1500-2000 or more to get it fixed, unless u can replace piston rings and head gaskets yourself. Or, swap the motor for a better D16Z6 if you want the same motor, or swap it.....But I could be way off if you did the compression test wrong

If you tested compression at WOT with a fully warmed up engine, then compression is fine.

Check the exhaust smoke again:

White smoke = coolant
Blue smoke = oil
Black smoke = fuel

add a cap full of oil to each cylinder and redo ur compression test. the oil will help seal the rings and if u get higher readings then ur rings are shot.

right on the money
typicaly
rings = blue smoke at high rpms
valve guide seals = blue smoke at start up after sitting for several hours

If it's on start up then it could be your valve seals. Also, you should check your cap/rotor, spark plugs, ignition timing, spark plug wires and make sure your battery is properly grounded since you said it lags at low rpm. What color smoke is it OP?

the truth of it is you have a d16z6 with x number of miles on it in a 17 year old car. If it is only doing it at start up and such a small amount that you cant really tell dont worry about it. Give the car a tune up cap, rotor, plugs check the ign timing and drive it. My 93 si has 230k plus on the original engine did compression test at 215k when changing the head gasket for the second time had 185 across the boards and it use almost a 2qrts of oil every 3k (bad valve seals). Keep the oil full and drive the **** out of it until you have the cash to replace it. The d16z6 only had 125hp in stock form so power is minimal to begin with. So many people on these boards think their car is going to blow up because it uses a 1qrt every x number of miles the truth is if you keep the oil topped up and drive it you shouldnt have a problem. Its when you dont check the oil and its low 3qrts that bad things happen fast.

thanks thats what i planned to do its just that the only thing left i cant figure out is why my plugs went bad so fast. i had them for less than a week n they are already in horrible condition. thanks tho, better to worry than not care at all
