Default Dislexic tire purchase :/

Hi gang,

I'm new to the Honda scene. I just picked up a 07' Accord SE 4banger for my fiancee' cause she needed a new car. In my haste to get some new tires, I glanced at the tires and thought I saw a different number. I purchased and mounted a set of Goodyear Eagle GT's in 205/50R16's instead of 205/60R16's. Is there going to be a big difference in the gas mileage or speedometer readings? Any help or suggestions would be helpful. Thanks.

Yes, there will be a substantial difference in the two sets of tires. The speedometer will read roughly 6.7% off. An acceptable range would be at most 3%.

Where did you buy the tires from?

Perhaps they will exchange them.

If they won't take them back I guess I'll run these till Christmas time, then look for a new set of the right size. They usually come out with good sales then.

Yeah if you mounted them then they are yours.

Actual gas mileage should not suffer, just your ability to accurately calculate it due to the fact that the odometer reading is off.

I guess it should'nt be too bad then for a couple of months.

Now when I do buy my new correct size, should I just stick with the
205/60R16? I went to another tire website and they mentioned I could go with other size such as

215/55-16
215/60-16
225/55-16
235/55-16
245/50-16

But I'm wondering if they'll fit on the stock alloy wheels as well as if th espeedo and gas mileage would suffer? Thanks again...

To maintain the same speeds as traffic on the highway, the engine will need to be spinning at a higher RPM (the indicated speed on the cluster will be an inaccurate reading, of course). This will cause a decrease in fuel economy, to cover the same distance. Even when traveling at the same indicated speed as before (with the proper sized tires), you're still looking at increased fuel consumption as the rolling assembly has to make more revolutions just to cover the same distance.

So, in short, fuel efficiency will suffer.

So if I keep it with in the 3% range then the speedo reading as well as the fuel consumption should be ok, or the same correct? I'm looking at either the 215/60R16's or 225/55R16's instead. As soon as I can change them out. But you think those sizes will fit?

Default Tire size for my 07' Accord

I tried a search but did'nt find anything. I have the stock 16" alloy's on my 07' Accord SE. The stock size tires are a 205/60R16, but I was wondering if a 225/55R16 would fit without rubbing the front or rear suspension. Any thoughts or suggestions? I wanna keep the stock wheels so I guess I'm limited to the tire width selection.

That wheel is only 6.5" wide...

A 225 equates to 8.85". Too much tire for such a narrow rim.

Best bet would be to pull them off and try to sell them.

mostly all the tire manufacturers say that size tire can fit on a 6"-8" wheel. It should fit then right? I mean if worse comes to worse, I guess I can run a 215/55R16, but that one says it'll fit a 6"-7.5" wheel...

Fuel consumption won't be the same, but it will be very similar.

Yeah, those tires will fit your wheels fine. And, they're within a safe range of tire sizes. You may rub a little on the inner fender liner when at full lock.

So would you say the 215/55R16's would be a safer choice for the no rubbing factor?

Well I guess I"'ll just bite the bullet for now and wait a couple month before I shell out a little cash for a new set of rubbers. Just now to figure out the brand and size I wanna get.

I started a new thread for that one.

Now to figure out 205/60R16's or 215/55R16's any suggestions???

The differences between 215/55/16 and 205/60/16 are so minimal that I'd say choosing which offered the better deal (both price and tire choice wise), would be the best way to go.

So I'd also get a more acurate speedo reading and fuel consumption??

The closer you are to factory sizing, the closer you'll be to having an accurate speedometer. And, if you're looking to increase fuel consumption, you'll want to consider getting lighter wheels.

Both 205/60R16 and 225/55R16 have been used (by us) with no problems on your car and on a 6" wide wheel. There is a good variety of options in both sizes, so you're in good shape either way
