1995 Integra GSR VSS short to power
Hello All. Car is a 1995 Integra GSR with some "off-road use only" parts
The problem I am having is that the speedometer is not working, therefore the ecu will not switch into high cam maps. Basically I have no vtec because the ecu is not seeing the speed trigger to switch maps. I started by diagnosing the VSS and working my way back from there. I tested the 3-pin connector at the VSS and realized there is about 10v at the orange wire (should be about 5v). This would lead me to believe that there is a short to power somewhere in the orange wire. This orange wire goes from VSS to speedo, maintenance reminder, cruise control, and then ecu. I have traced the problem to the speedo. I confirmed this by un-clipping the speedo plug on the back of the cluster, and then I was able to read about 5v at vss plug and on ecu. I tried replacing the cluster with a used one but I continue to have the same issue. I am not sure if the used cluster is bad as well, but I want to make sure that there is no other avenue to explore before I buy ANOTHER cluster. Can anyone think of any other possible solutions, maybe you have encountered a similar problem. Any and all brainstorming is welcome...I just wanna hit VTEC again! and have a operable speedometer. Thanks for reading my post.

i have tried swapping with a known good one and the same problem is present. i am 99.9% sure it is a speedo issue. anyone have a known working one for sale?
Everything works fine now. The car is pulling nice and the motor feels tight. I just needed to set launch control above rev limiter..newb mistake but a lot has been learned in the process. The issue has got to be in the speedo not working, launch control can never disengage if the emu never sees the speed trigger. This is the last day on my insurance for the year and winter could come any day in ME, so I will purchase a new cluster over the winter. BTW the car ran 9.90sec @ 80.3mph in the 1/8th today. I had absolutely zero traction until the top of third, pedaling for a good half track. Just more reason to buy a set of slicks over the winter
I hope someone else can learn from my mistakes in the future if they have a similar problem. This thread is dead, thanks for the views.
