Why is ej1 muffler bigger than eg sedan muffler?

Why is ej1 muffler bigger than eg sedan muffler?
I recently noticed that the muffler pipe on ej1 civics are bigger than the one on my eg sedan. I was wondering if it is just for cosmetic purposes or do they have better flow thus creates more power? Does the fact that my car is a dx have anything to do with it?
