quite and stock looking exhaust
I don't know if I am asking too much out of a cat back exhaust system, hehe.
But I want it to be almost as quite as the stock one I have, looking very stock and offers good performance I can use. I have read a lot about quite exhaust, but which ones look stock? Is type R catback my best option? Will it fit a 1998 GS? Thanks guys.

First off, I beleive you want a quiet exhaust as opposed to a quite exhaust.
Shop for an exhaust w/ a resonator and chambered muffler. These will be two of the biggest things that will quiet an exhaust system down. Apex WS is a good choice as it has both the b-pipe resonator and a chambered muffler. Although I think that the 60mm piping of the WS is just a tad too big for your non-vtec (you'll still get a good performance gain). For an "all bolt-on's only" b18b.....2.25" piping will be the correct size.
So the itr catback is a great option at 2.25" piping, a resonator, and a chambered muffler. My only beef w/ the itr's cat back exhaust is that it has a few bottle necks in it. One at the cat-->b-piping flange and another in the axle back portion.
Both are great choices for performance and low sound.

Do you really really believe that? hehe, sorry
Thanks for replies, seems like these two exhausts are my best choices. I am leaning towards the type R right now, what kind of bottle necks are you talking about, blueteg? The bending of the piping that restricts the flow? How do these two compare in performance?
My concern now is the availability of the type r cat back exhaust.

i have read on here that the apex WS is like a baffled design or something and doesn't flow as well...i'd recommend custom b pipe, high flow cat (if you use one) and a type R axle back.
the Apexi WS.. one of the above post was mentioning that it will not do good cuz he is lacking vtec. now i have a built ls/vtec (11.5, bored 84mm, JDM4-1 header, intake, P&P head, JUN3 head package.and hondata 3) and i too and looking for stock looking exhaust, whether its quiet or has some sound to it. what would be my best bet.

it should pass smog i have an n1 with i/h/e/ pressure regulator chipped and it passes smog i think as long as you have the cat on it should. and your not running to high a fuel pressure.
As far as passing smog.
A cat-back system does not effect the output of emissions so there is no CARB number needed to pass SMOG. However, there are noise restrictions. You wont run into any of those problems with noise, with an Apexi Worldsport or GReddy or any other "quiet" exhaust, so don't worry about that.
If you modify your cat, then you may run into trouble. Unlikley though.

I've got a Comptech on my all-bolt-on b18b, and on my ImageStation gallery I subtitled my Comptech exhaust, "Stock Style Bling Bling". I think it looks a LOT nicer than an N1 or something monstorous and coffee-can-ish like that.

The b-pipe flange bottleneck in question is common on most aftermarket exhaust systems as well. It occurs at the beginning of the b-piping. The exhaust piping basically narrows in diameter in all directions (like an hour glass) to accomodate the flange weld. It can be corrected by chopping off the end portion and welding on a small piece of exhaust piping. SMS products offers a correction flange which eliminates this bottleneck. The second restriction that I am aware of is at the last bend (where it goes up to clear the LCA) in the axle back portion of the itr exhaust, the piping has a crush bend which reduces the piping diameter.
The itr or any 2.25" will provide better midrange power due to the exhaust scavenging effects that a 2.25" system will have on the B1 motor. Top end should be very close to if not equal between the two systems. This statment is made assuming that you upgrade your entire exhaust system: header, cat, piping, muffler. Upgrading the catback alone will yield minimal gains.
Check around.....but finding a used itr cat back may be difficult. it just depends.

The oem itr uses a chambered design as well.
A straight thru design muffler will out flow a chambered design every day of the week.........at the expense of being louder.
Comptech uses a straight thru design on their catback.
