Default A few questions.

Ok here goes, I'm currently looking for my first TIG machine. I have never tig welded before, only MIG, stick, and have done some brazing. I'm excited about trying something new, and also feel like learning to TIG weld will help me in the future. I've been to the local welding supply store and have talked with the salesman, I'm currently leaning towards the miller syncowave 200. Now the question, is this a good choice for my first welder? Any other recommendations? I'm hoping to possibly be able to use this for some things at work also. I currently work at a transmissions shop and on occasions we have cracked cases and broken bell housings that we have to send out to get fixed.
Thanks in advance.

look into the htp 220 series. Sweet machines and not too bad of a price. The sync are nice, just transformer, and i've heard they're a lil tricky on aluminum.

Ok so I have decided I want a inverter machine, for the portability and what not. I am torn between the Miller Diversion 165 or the Diversion 180. For the price increase to go to the 180 is it worth it? Duty cycle doesn't seem as if it increased? I know the 180 comes with a foot pedal too. I have also looked at the Hobart 165. Which if I am correct is the same as the Miller 165? The Hobart comes with a foot pedal and is cheaper then the Miller. Any thoughts on these welders would be greatly appreciated.

I have a Diversion 165 and I love it, if you need to see the kind of stuff I've done with it you can look at my daily thread that is currently near this thread.

Can't comment on the Hobart, the 180 is pretty much the same thing as the 165 with I believe slightly more power and the ability to use 110v.

Yea I've been reading a lot on that site, and watching videos. I feel like I need to get a machine to try some of the tips and tricks. I've also ordered the miller student handbook off the millerwelds.com website.
