"About a year" is rather meaningless. I drive around 7k miles a year, while my wife managed 20k last year. The set of RE-11s on my car would last 2 years on mine (if I didn't auto-x on them), or 3/4 of a year on her car at most.

Also, Dunlop makes multiple different tires with the name Direzza, not all of which are good, and Kumho is a brand that makes good and bad tires, so those are rather meaningless considerations...

Tell us:
budget
temp considerations
miles you need them to last under normal, safe, driving conditions

Only then can any recommendations be made.

Cali, with no intentions to need to use the tires in the snow (no Mammoth trips?), then summer tires fit the bill.

Direzza Sport Z1 Star Specs, Potenza RE-11, Ecsta XS, RT-615K, Ventus R-S3, etc... (I left out a few in that category, not for any reason, but just because I can't think of them off hand.) Any "extreme performance" summer tire will last 12k-15k miles, and provide the best grip possible.

Not all of those are available in all sizes though, and some are a bit more expensive than the others for various reasons. Most are better than typical all season tires in the wet too.

However, with that budget, you might need to step down on the grip level a little and go with a cheaper "ultra high performance" summer tire instead.

So, decision time. If grip is the highest priority, then you'll probably need to increase the budget. If the budget is absolute, then grip expectations need to come down (but lifespan will go up).

No mention of what car, so I can't look up pricing on specific sizes to compare...

Poor recommendation. He doesn't need all season tires, and is looking for something "very grippy".

H speed rated, so a good "commuter" tire but no high performance capability

With many things, "ya gotta pay to play". Grip is one of them.

Someone who has the money to make 300whp in an Integra should have enough money for good tires...

I think my current set of RE-11s set me back over $600, after rebate.
