NA guys PLEASE READ (exhuast question)
hey NA heads,
Im basically wondering if this exhaust i have will hurt power/torque at all.
here's the engine setup first:
b18c, spoon cams, 11.5:1 CR, itr intake/exhaust manifolds and TB, itr valves and springs,
Here's my exhaust question:
i bought this tanabe hyper exhaust: pipe size is 2.25" which shoudl be fine.
PROBLEMS: first 3" or so is only 1 and 7/8, inside the resonator is 1 and 7/8 with louvers too (1 and 1/4 inside the louvers), and the muffler uses a perforated 1 and 7/8 tube- straight layout.
it doesnt SEEM Like thats a very good exhaust system, b/c of those bottlenecks. Do any of you think w/ a motor prepped like this, the exhaust would hurt power at all compared to a all 2.25 exhaust.
I ask b/c i might cut off the first 3" and redo that 2.25, i might cut out the resonator and replace it w/ one i have already tahts 2.5 and louvered, and possibly keep the 1 and 7/8th perforated straight thru tanabe muffler or possibly replace that too depending.
WHAT DO YOU GUYS THINK? please answer if you have experience w/ this kinda stuff, especially dyno runs or 1/4 mile times.
i can see how those smaller sections may simply add a lil backpressure and it might not be a bad thing. i can also see that it might be bad since N1 exhausts (which go on engines with this level of tuning +/-) do NOT have bottlenecks like that.
thanks.

well, simple answer..., although maybe not the one you want to hear. Thermal R&D works for me.
