best way to adjust Zeals?

is it better to adjust the top one? or the bottom one?
i'd think the bottom one (the actual bottom half of the coil over) because it looks as if it would retain travel (sorry if that sounds dumb
)but if the coilovers are on the car, i wouldn't be able to adjust the bottom one because it would be secured by the damper fork.
i replied in the ITR forum, but also check out this thread made by scott:

The top perch should just be snug against the spring. No more or no less. The bottom one is the one you adjust. Actually, you loosen it and turn the entire body to screw up or down. You don't need to take the coilover off of the control arm to adjust.
yeah, i kept the spring snug.
but i believe i do have to take it off to adjust the bottom one, because wouldnt the fork prevent it from moving?
and in the rear, the bottom bolts to the LCA, so that wouldnt move either.
edit: thanks yoshi.. crap thats a bible to read

but the whole top portion will rotate.
but if i adjusted that, wouldn't that defeat the purpose of keepin the spring snug by hand tightening it? or i'll just depend on the weight of my car to keep it snug.
you're right, disregard my previous statement
since you snugg'd the springs already, go ahead and install them. Drive around a bit to let things settle. Come back and measure how much you want to lower or raise each corner.
In the front, loosen the fork and j00 should be able to turn the bottom 'cup'.
In the rear, you'll have to remove the bottom section to adjust.

You can adjust height with the coilover still in the control arm!
Loosen both the top and bottom perch. Then using your hand with a rubber glove on it or something, twist the entire coilover body and you'll see the threads screwing either into or out of the bottom mount. This is how you adjust height without losing travel.
Then, preload the spring properly (remember, snug) and then tighten all of the perches again. Repeat until you get the desired ride height. Also, MEASURE each coilover to make sure they are equal between sides or else you'll get some goofy right/left handling.

You mean adjust the ride height. Yeah, it's mostly done through the bottom one, but you can move it with the top ones as well. See Scott's post.
As for how to adjust the height with the fork still connected, simply loosen the bottom ring. Then to lower the ride height, take one spanner wrench against the top ring, and try to move it down. Since you have not loosened the locking ring, this forces the shock body to screw down into the bottom of the shock body.
Likewise, if you're trying to go up, use the smaller spanner wrench against the lock ring and try to move it upwards. Again, since you have not loosened the spring perch ring, the shock body will turn and move upwards.
