Default Possible Ecu Problem? Not sure, anyone ever had this happen or something like this?

This is my first post, hopefully I don't mess anything up or do something wrong or something lol, never been on these forums. No bashing please, just would like some help.

But I got a 99 gsr swapped eg, supposively fully built etc. (high compression motor) Anyways it was down a while ago for reasons that turned out to be a bad fpr, replaced the fpr. The car ran perfect. Note I have an exhaust leak, right under the firewall. (Just for added info) anyways, a couple weeks ago went to my friend, I have a chipped p28, he messed with the chip a little bit, changed vtec to hit at 4,500 and added a two step. Anyways all is good with that, been running fine and hitting vtec correctly until a couple days ago.

Now the car starts right up, drives perfectly normal before the vtec engages. (no cel by the way) Basically, Vtec seems to not hit at all where it should anymore (4,500) it actually doesn't hit half the time, sometimes it does. But when it does, it's not how it should be, say i'm at 7k rpms, there will be a slight hesitation to keep climbing the rpms, then all of a sudden a burst of torque/power. Really weird.. not sure what the problem is. I know a while ago, the ecu would throw code 23 I think, which is the vtec control valve. But i checked the solenoid cleaned it, etc. And that didn't fix it, did some reading turned out my ecu had a short or something was going on, just moved the ecu harness wires around and code went away. Vtec hit fine after that. So I'm sure thats not the problem as there are no more codes.

Fuel pressure is at 43 psi which from what i've read is right, if not please correct me. But i'm not sure where to check. Also my gas mileage has SLIGHTLY decreased. Not by much, but kind of noticeable. I have gave all the information I think, but if you got any more questions just let me know i'll answer them. The problem isn't major, but just isn't at all how it should be. Personally I feel as if it's a ecu wiring problem. But I could be wrong, first time i've experienced this.

Sometimes you need to wait for the car to fully warm up and get to operating temperature before vtec hits.

I'm sure you are very aware of this, and I am most likely regurgitating information, but it is important to note that VTEC will NOT hit if you have low oil pressure, low temp, etc! There is a huge checklist that needs to be satisfied.

But, if you are at fully operating temperature, and you rev over 5k in 4 different isolated pulls and only 2 or 3 of those 4 hit vtec, then there is a problem somewhere else.

Poorly chipped ecu, poor wiring or maybe even a shitty vtec solenoid could do the trick.

Best of luck!

Could be a corrupt file. Re- burn s stock map and see how that works.

Ditto the above^^^ I would take it back to your friend who, "messed with the chip a little bit" and have him check it out, as mentiond try a stock map and see what happens

The ecu was already chipped with the car when I got it. Drove it chipped for several months. I just wanted vtec set a little lower and a 2 step. That's all he did, so yes, he did "mess with the chip a little bit" that was almost a month ago though. So nothing to do with this out of nowhere i'm sure.

But, I figured it out. To the first person to post, I did know all of that, but didn't think of checking my oil, the car was at normal temperature before i tried letting vtec engage. Last time I had low oil pressure (3ish weeks ago) I did a oil change, didn't think i'd need to put oil in it this quickly. Now that I think of it I do rev it pretty high every once in a while, won't lie. Guess it does burn a little oil. But added oil, all is well now. Thanks for the help guys!
