Default What is the best way to strip my wheels?

I have a set of wheels from a 91 CRX SI. I want to strip and refinish them. Maybe even polish them out. Can anyone tell me the easiest way to strip the clear off? I would like to do it without removing the tires if possible.

Will air craft grade stripper damage the tires or valve stems? I really don't want to dismount them.

Trying to properly strip wheels without removing the tires is a bad idea really. They either have to be blasted, sanded, or chemically stripped and two of those will mess up your rubber parts. Manually sanding them would be feasible, but it's much harder with tires...

Media blasting alloys will damage the metal, and weaken them overall. Ideally, chemical stripping is the best option.

Also, there are a few threads linked in the FAQ's related to wheel painting/polishing that go over removing the existing wheel finish.
