h22s getting smoked?
i currently have the d16y8 motor in my 96 sedan (obd2) planning on swapping soon because of high miles and bad synchros, people are telling me to go h22a to make up for weight, now i dont know about u guys but out here in tucson h22a swaps are getting owned by most b16/b18 swaps around. any advice for me on what you think would be a better swap(or easiest swap for that matter).thanks!
Well, put it this way.
B16A's = 160hp and 111ft-lbs stock
B18B's = 140hp and 127ft-lbs stock
B18C's = 170hp and 128ft-lbs stock
H22A's = 190-200hp and 153-155ft-lbs stock
These are all the flywheel.
The big thing with the H22A is torque. Torque is something that most Honda motors lack. If H22A's are getting owned by B16's/B18's then they are probably fully-built while the H22's are stock.

i have NEVER been "owned" by a b series,n/a, FI, squeezed, nothing, been within a few cars of losing, but never lost, not to say that i will never lose, it could happen........................well hell freezes over!!j/k
go with the h22 its way better than a b series unless you fully build a b series, even then bigger is better!!!

H22 in HB are runnin low 13's to 12's all day STOCK!!!
I've never seen a B16 or B18 own a H22 without F/I. You'd have to fully build a B-series just to match what a H22 can do stock.

What would you consider "OWNED"? Is it me roling with 3 people in my car racing an S2000 that cant pull on me? Or handing a modded WRX his ***(with 3 people in the car).........Or is that not enough for a STOCK h22 hatch??

with a sedan.(h22)..most likely u wont have any a/c..they say it can be done but...doing is another story.. u need that in az rite?...(i imagine it gets kinda hot there..) then u know that power steering is gone too...
with a sedan.. i gess u carry alot of people around maybe?.. comfort may be an issue to u.. but if not.. i've never seen a h22 sedan.. would be interesting to see what it could do.
with the b18.. u can keep all a/c and ps.. a frend of mine has a 94 sedan 5spd with a gsr motor.. mild mods.. i/h/e and he ran a consistent 14.8..
the b16 i think.. would be a waste on the sedan...

check out that h22 civic sedan.
hcp makes an ac bracket for the h22 swap into a civic. You can use your existing ac compressor and it bolts up with the brack. You just have to move your ac fan (might have to get a slimmer one) in front of the ac system and wire it up so that its a pusher.
ac in a hybrid car kicks ***.

Never sea H22 swap that impressed me (Not in GA). They seem to do much better in other places.
A local here ran someone's H22 hatch in his B18C5 hatch (Both stock with bolt ons, the H22 even had a LSD which they don't come with stock). The b18 broke a clutch fork @ the line. But the B18C5 was running consistent 13.3's to 13.5's while the H22 swap was running 13.7's-14.0's all day.
H22= More torque, more weight (undeniably a fact), no LSD in stock form, little more involved of a swap.
B18C5= Less torque, better gearing, LSD stock, easier swap.
They both have the same horsepower, and the B18C5 comes with extra's that the make it a fair race.
The only issue is cost. A prelude swap is 3g's while a B18C5 swap is 4500.
Both have their pluses and minus's (H22A with boost or NOS runs like a scalded bitch).
No b16 I've seen can take anything else but another B16 or a LS.

news flash, S2000s r not fast. i kept a fender on a S2000 from approx 20mph roll to 120MPH in a 99 EX w/GSR. from a roll S2000s r weak.
i have said this a million times on the H22 civic. it has too much torque for most ppl to handle, therefor they have traction issues. most H22/civics r runnin anywhere from mid 13s to upper 14s which isnt anything to b happy about. anyone thats runnin faster than that is the rare occasion.
anywhere from 14 flat - 14.2, at just over 100mph...
i just want my car to beat young rich dudes in s2000's...(too many where i live, they all think they are the shizzle..) so i gotta get my b16, 98 ex sleeper..there somehow
i am already sqeezin' 75hp shot zex..think i could hang then? hks exhaust, aem cai??
h22's ownz j00! btw

that would be Tom's hatch... and my friend with his B16 (stock completely) in a hatch beat our other friend with a H22A in a dx coupe, with a lightened flywheel.

Some h22's DO come with LSD's stock.
The driver must have sucked or had to be a heavier hatch, no question.
H22A-CX ran 13.6 at 3000 ft ELAVATION.
no question in my mind H should have won.
good race, however.

thank you h22ek
the c5 was Tom..the moderator of the eg forum????
don't really want to argue in that c5 vs h22 thread because it'd just be excuses.
Timeslips say facts, and I plan to do that
