Does anyone know where to get tires shaved in S. Pa or Baltimore area?

 

Use a Gillette Fusion shaver.






or call shops and see if they do so.

 

Only place I pulled up was Radial Tire in MD. I was going to call Tire Rack in Delaware to see if they take tires from outside of what they sell.

 

Find a semi-truck tire service shop, ask if they can "true" a tire.

You might need to plan to drive there twice. Paul probably won't have time to shave them while you wait. It might be worth it to ship the tires there in advance or have them ship them to you when they're done.

 

i only need one tire shaved. My MS6 had a flat so i purchased a replacement tire for it. I hear that the AWD systems are "sensitive" so i wanted to get the tire close to the other three that are on there

 

How worn are the old tires? The awd is on the MS6 THAT sensitive? What happens if one of the tires is low on air by 4 psi or if you're making a turn where the outside tires travel further than the inside tires? I'd imagine 4psi difference will affect the effective rolling diameter more than a new tire that has 2 mm more tread. I have a brand new tire and 3 almost-bald tires on my audi (different awd system probably than your MS6) and I haven't notice any effects. Perhaps it would affect the antilock brakes or ESP, but I have yet to push the car that much.

BTW, I would call before going to radial. If they shave your tire the same way they shave race rubber, it will have a pretty rough finish.....not something I would want on a street car.

 

It would probably be cheaper or right around the same price to just buy a second new tire, after factoring in shipping/driving cost.

Edit: Also, that particular Radial Tire is in Silver Spring. You're looking at a solid 40-45 min drive south of Baltimore. Great guys, but not the closest joint to S.Pa.

 

Drew, the fronts are at or around 7/32 and and the rear are at 8/32nds I think the new will be 10 or 11/32nds. I am not sure how sensitive the awd system is. I can never get a clear answer from anyone and the only one I get is online from self proclaimed "expert" from a mazda board. it is such a small fraction off, I would be shicked that the car notices. I did find a place in Thurmont , MD to shave the tire
