Default 87 Civic 1300 1.3L.. interface or non-interface

My son bought a 1987 Civic with 1300 1.3L engine. Has over 150,000 miles. Recently the timing belt broke while he was on freeway. He thought fuel pump went out (limited driving/car issue history) so forced it .5 miles to off ramp, then attempted to start it so many times battery died.

When I got to check it out, clearly more than fuel pump and no compression so assumed timing issue. Towed it to where we could work on it. Replaced timing belt with little difficulty. Note: there was no clear indication for TDC on the camshaft gear. The hash marks for leveling gear with head where clear but no "up" indicator. One side had an OEM hole in gear, the other side had numerical markings stamped into it. We used stamped side as TDC.

Upon starting, there was immediate evidence of an issue. Missing and dies unless gas pedal is actuated. Sounds like compression is just behind where it should be... as in missing, but with good detonation.

It seems like maybe the camshaft could be 180 degrees off OR the valves and/or valve rods were damaged.

Any input on the above is helpful, plus I'm seeking answers to these questions...
1) Is this motor interface or non-interface?
2) If the camshaft gear was 180 degree off on installation would these symptoms be present? Would the vehicle even run?
3) There is leaking now from what seems to be main seal, is this common and do you agree that leaking oil may have caused the belt to fail in first place?
4) If we have to rotate the camshaft gear 180 degrees, we will have to r&r the belt anyway and will replace the main seal at same time... any input on that process to avoid mistakes?
5) Will take any and all input on this situation

Thanks,
Mike

So I just looked under the hood and it says..

On engine...

DR485-34
7103

under hood label...

1300
HHN1.5V3EBC6
82 in displacement

so... maybe this is a 1300 1.5L?? This is pretty confusing, any help/input may help

82 in^3 is 1.3 liters

Google unit conversion: http://www.google.com/search?q=82+in^3+in+liters

Yes I thought that too but what is the 1.5v in "HHN1.5V3EBC6"?

And do you have answers to the other questions, particularly if it is interface or non-interface... if non-interface there may be not great damage.

I found a site that lists known "interface" engines and the 87 1300 1.3L isn't on it... I'm just looking for an easy route, I know I know it's not just so simple but info will help me.

In the US, the 87 didn't come with a 1.3L. Must be in Canada...
AFAIK, all Honda engines are interference engines. Did you pull the head and do and inspection?

When I rebuilt my 1.5 years ago, there's a dot and "Up" (not arrows) Sounds like you may be off a tooth. Does it tick? Any more than a tooth off, you are destroying valves.
