I apologize but we were misinformed, and consequently misinformed the public. Precision has been using the term CEA to refer to their billet compressor wheels for a good time now. Boasting how the new manufacturing process provides thinner blades, less material usage, more air flow, etc. So this is what we went off of when we got word from Precision that the CEA 66mm wheel was finally available. However, Precision was able to make the thinner blades, and increase air flow and efficiency, without having to go to as expensive of a process as billet machining, and without sacrificing strength. So these 66mm turbine wheels will be cast, using a new design made by precision for precision, not billet machined. It is advertised as the benefits of a billet machined exhaust wheel without the considerable increase in cost that billet machining an exhaust wheel would incur.

Same question I'm asking as I figure the cast turbine wheel would be more tolerant to heat and as a result be more durable.

 

Just hang on...let's see. You may be just fine. It's like the newest iPhone.. you never get it when you want it, just because as each is released, there are 3-4 updates that are coming out soon. You never win.

ok everyone please refer to the "update" at the end of the first post. We were mistaken. The "CEA" 66mm turbine wheel is not billet machined like the "CEA" compressor wheels. However, it IS made differently than the standard 65 wheel was, and offers many of the same benefits that their billet compressor wheels offer over their cast compressor wheels. For example, in the photos below, pay special attention to the thickness of the blades the the snout. Much like the CEA Compressor wheels, less material is used, thinner blades, thinner snout means less room taken up by metal, more room taken up by air, and a lighter wheel with less mass.

That's what I was wondering. I knew there was No Way they could use a billet turbine shaft/wheel from the same "CEA" material as what's being used on the compressor wheel. That thing would have catastrophically failed in a matter of a few cycles. Thanks for clearing that up Real Street..

 

Yea I think everyones first instinct was to relate "CEA" to the "machined from a solid piece" compressor wheels. But Precisions new CEA branding stands for "Competition Engineered Aerodynamics" so that can apply to billet wheels or cast wheels, its just the term they are using for their "new and improved designs"

 

happened to me on a smaller scale. few months back i bought a 5431b with the V trim compressor wheel. month later the 5431e CEA comes out with a super light billet 6 bladed wheel that created a 50lb/min 50trim turbo.

now comes the cool part. for $75 plus shipping precision let me send back the v trim for one of the new cea turbos which i just received a few hours ago.

only catch is what you send back has to be new

 

I wonder if the exhaust wheel is as light as the Garretts? I've just swapped my turbonetics exhaust wheel in my 6262 to a thinner one and saved a fair chunk from the HUGE 524g I started with.

Just got word that my 6262 will be here next thursday. I'll have dyno results soon after. GT3076r vs the 6262. 1.06 divided housing on the GT30r, and a .82 open housing on the 6262

 

52lbs/min vs 66lbs/min? How is that a "vs."? Two completely different turbos with different needs. But good luck with your purchase.

 

I am currently feeling uneasy about the amount of boost I run on this particular setup. the goal was to lower mid-range torque and trade it for more top end power. I felt this would be easier with the larger turbo, rather than push this turbo beyond what it will put out efficiently. Especially since I am at high elevation. I see other guys hitting high hp #s with the 30R, but not around here.

I had the option of the 35r or this... so 6262 it is. I'm hoping for 350whp on 10psi and 500whp on 20-24psi. Nothing crazy with the tune I am running. But we'll see what it does. If 450whp can be had on 22psi with a 30r, hopefully 500 can be achievable with the 6262. I only have experience with Garrett turbos, so I am interested to see what it does.

That looks to be a 6-66 Exhaust wheel from the design of the wheel itself. Did you measure the exducer to confirm?
