Registering out of state bike in CA
I have a bike from North Carolina that I need to register in California. What is the process of this? Do I need to get the bike inspected?
I've heard conflicting things from people and from what I've ready online, so I was curious as to what you all have to say.
Thanks!

Thanks for the link, but it still doesn't answer if I need to get the bike inspected.
It says "The vehicle must be inspected by an authorized DMV employee, law enforcement officer, or a licensed vehicle verifier" but nothing motorcycle specific and people I've talked to said they've never had to register their bike. Knowing there are a lot of California riders on here whose opinions I trust, I'd like to hear what they've had to do.

PM'ed...
as a matter of fact, this used to be the technique for registering non cali bikes... bring them into cali from another state as a registered owner. People that already live in cali could not register those bikes, but if you move to cali, you can!
Not sure if it still works any longer
So in essence, if you already reside in cali, and it is not a cali legal model, I don't think you are going to be able to register it unless you buy it in cali already registered.
there also used to be a work around for dual purpose/motards, but I am pretty sure they closed that loop hole.
What did you get my man!!!

It's a crapper 2006 GSXR 1000 I've had for a little over a year. My primary mode of transportation right now and it's kind of a piece of ****.
I'm not sure if it's a California model, but I think I'm exempt under this: "Registered by you in the state of your last active military service outside California."
I registered it in North Carolina while on active duty so I should be good.
Guess I'll be giving the DMV a call. I had planned on just keeping this bike registered in North Carolina, but I had to update my insurance, which means I had to buy a new California policy .. which means I have 20 days to get my bike registered here .. which means I need to get a license here (and a new MC permit) or face a $1300 fine apparently for having a CA plate and insurance, but no license .. according to the Progressive lady.
Thanks MSchu!

I had read something about that too, but I'm less than 7500 miles. My biggest concern is finding out if I need an inspection or not. Which I've been told by someone on here I did need to get. Guess I'll bite the bullet and call the DMV (ugh..) to see exactly what they need.
