I highly recommend "The Walter Mitty Challenge," an annual spring event at Road Atlanta.

You get to see cars like this on track.

PS - Big Block Can Am cars (REAL ones) make your brain rattle in your skull as they go by.

Those good time killed more than a few folks, however. I think history will report that both of the cars pictured above had aluminum roll cages.

Interesting history tidbit: the Lancia Delta S4 in the above pic could accelerate from 0 to 60 in 2 seconds on a gravel road. Henri Toivonen drove an S4 around Estoril, the Portuguese Grand Prix circuit, fast enough that he would have qualified sixth for the 1986 Portuguese Grand Prix...

Except that isn't a Delta. That's a Rally 037 from the early "Killer B" days - the 2wd GrB car before the Delta S4, which is the one that killed Henri Toivonen (aluminum rollcage, again). The S4 was the GrB version of the hatchback, that came back in GrA trim as the Delta Integrale.

I believe this car was also known a s the Stradale. Supercharged and turbocharged...just for good measure. As much as I love the Lancia Stratos, this car is well, amazing.

Mind you, this is one of the few cars in the world that scares me to death when I think about what it would be like trying to drive it. It just gives me the chills.

Would you happen to know if those guys are still around?
the store front is just north of town on Rt.29 (on the right driving north).. before you get to the airport I think.

not sure if the place is still in business.

here is another place

I confess that, with the exception of hanging out here and at improvedtouring.com, I haven't been paying any attention to cars, so I don't know. Heck, I don't even own a street car right now. I drove a friend's Kia Sephia this past week and it struck me that it has been more than two years since I drove a manual transmission!

I am going to try to catch the WCTouring race at VIR, however.

That would be International Auto Parts ... Definitely still in business, and bigger/better than ever. I was up there not three months ago getting obscure Alfa parts for my friend Matthew's Duetto.

Kirk you are correct that is a 037 and correct that is the car that killed Henry Toivonen in Rally Corsica and actually he left the road and landed on a tree and a small branch went into his neck and killed him and guess what no damage to the car at all but I guess it was his time to die.
That was a Killer grp B car, I saw this car in Rally of Cyprus back like 20 years ago man what a car!!!!! for me that car and the list below are still the real deal: Renault 5 Turbo, Ford Escort Cosworth, Nissan 240 SSS, Talbot Lotus, BMW M1, Porsche 911 SCRS and more from those days are still my list of favorites before the 4wd show up with Audi. To bad not many of you guys don't remember these cars and not many of you experienced them in the US.
Man !!! I can not forget the sound of that Lancia it sounds better than Frank Sinatra... by the way that car had dual shocks and springs on each side like the Off Road Trucks.

So how much power are we talking about in those “killer” group b cars? I know the modern day wrc cars are "limited" to around 300 hp(?), but nevertheless the motors are probably tuned so well that they make 450 lbs of torque at 3500 rpm just to make 300 hp at that low rpm and then bleed the boost to hold (and not go over) ~300 hp all the way to the rev limiter. I would love to see totally flat dyno hp curve on one of these wrc cars! So how much power did those group b cars make?

THAT is one big assed wing
"I've seen bigger." -Homer Simpson

This reminds me of the time I saw one of those old 70's muscle cars (I don't know which one), the dude made a GIANT wing out of wood and mounted it on his trunk. I followed him for a good mile laughing my *** off. It swayed back and forth as he turned and weaved through traffic.

500 hp and maybe more but technology now is more advanced and now the 300hp cars are going faster on all the special stages, and actually group A cars started breaking those stage time within 2 to 3 years after FIA banned the grp B cars.

Yeah, racing teams figured out the horsepower part of the equation long ago. Formula One cars used to produce ~1100 horsepower, 200-300 more than they produce now, in the mid 1980's and I doubt they would stand a chance today.

are you positive? i don't think so. group-a cars of today are heavy and under powered. i have a video of old group B cars and they look WAY fasters. very crude, powerful, and super fast. old group b cars could do 0-60 in 3 sec., 0-100 in 8 sec.

old group B cars had 600+ hp and were no more than 2500 lbs. the only the that's really probably better today might be tires.

two of my favorite cars of all times are RS200 and 959 (both were group b cars).
