Sunroof swap questions
I have a 94 prelude and I started to do the 5th gen sunroof swap. The problems I'm having is this. First, the glass sits up about a 1/4 inch higher than the roof. Second, when I tighten the bolts up to the brackets that hold the glass, the panel retracts really slow, almost like something is binding up. I really wanna do this swap. My sunroof is rusting before my eyes. I need help. Thanks
One more thing, I've been searching for the answers to my questions all over this site. I can't find em. I must not be looking in the right places.
I think the motor is ok. It works flawlessly with the original metal sunroof and it works good with the glass one......until I snug up the mounting nuts to the slide brackets. That's when it starts acting like it's binding up. I don't know why it's doing that either.
That's the set of instructions I used and while it is very thorough, it doesn't answer my questions. The one step I didn't follow was using the 5th gen brackets. I did that because I read in that same thread that they weren't all that necessary and the 4th gen brackets would work with modification. Plus I didn't have them.

Well, I shimmed down the whole assembly with a couple of washers on my lunchbreak. I haven't put the glass in yet, but I'll update when I do. I'm hoping that will allow the glass to sit flush with the roof. I'm still wondering what would cause it to act like it's binding up when it's tightened down.

the e-shaped shims on mine arent all the way in...i had to slide it outwards for some reason for the whole thing to slide smooth

Alright. I put the glass in. It still sits higher than the roof line. I've got 4 washers spacing the whole assembly down and I even took the e-shaped spacers out. It hardly made a difference with the height. And the motor is still struggling to close, almost like its binding somewhere. I can't figure it out and I can't see what's making it do that. When I loosen the nuts to where it's barely snug, it works fine. What gives? I'm supremely frustrated.
guessing it still needs to be shimmed down more:
A: its still sitting to high
B: that probably is causing clearance issues with your new panel
Also: if you shim it more, watch the gap between the sunroof assembly opening and the body, you may need to get some foam weatherstrip to fill that gap just to make sure there is no moisture getting into the car.

Thanks Slate. Yea, the height thing is still somewhat of an issue......with me anyway. It doesn't leak air or water. I found that out thanks to the crapload of rain we just got yesterday. It just sits about 3/8 of an inch higher than the roof in the front and the back. The sides sit flush so I'm guessing maybe there is a different curvature in the roof(?). It will have to do. I did fix the issue with it binding up. It just needed grease on the tracks. The one thing I didn't try. LOL I love the glass top. I don't think I'll be able to use the 5th gen bolt covers because I shimmed everything down so much. But I don't care. It looks awesome.
I didn't use the 5th gen brackets. I think that's why mine doesn't sit completely flush. I just opened the holes on the 4th gen brackets. I'm happy with it. It definitely sets it off.
