Default Full V-Band 321 and Inconel Suby Setup

Here is a full 321 mil spec 1.75"x.065" tubing header with v-band outlet. Then inconel 625 2.125"x.049" tubing. Turbo being utilized on this particular setup is an hta86 w/ Tial V-Band housing. Downpipe which is also already mandrel bend but not pictured is 321 3"x.049" 321 mil spec tubing which is all v-band as well, and modifying the catback to be v-band as well. Owner is shooting for over 600whp on e85 so should be exciting to see how this setup does. Everything is super light on this setup. And yes the header is a mix of polished and unpolished tubing. I originally had a set of tubing polished to see how it looked but i absolutely hate how it looks. Everything is getting ceramic coated a titanium color so it doesnt matter. Should be nice when done.

Is the owner on NASOIC or ClubWRX? I'd love to see more pics of this setup. I'm gonna start working of the stupidru after I get the Honduh back on the road and that setup is very enticing!

Im not sure if he is. He's a local but he's only been here a short time from what I know and I believe he's moving shortly as well. I havent actually met him yet, he got my number from the local suby tuner and we've just communicated through phone calls.

no way man, burns is outrageous. Mandrel bender I use orders it and bends it up for me, comes out fairly "cheap" that way. A big company that has 321 and other exotic metals is actually up in WA. Company is called Future Metals.

Very nice work! You got a lot of tube in the background what is your main line of work? Just automotive or something else?

I would HIGHLY recommend a flex bellows be added in the down pipe. The setup does look nice though!

Looks great! Excellent work.

What I'm not sure I'll ever understand is how the subie manis support all that weight with such thin wall tubing? Almost every subie mani I have seen is out of tubing. Can't say I have ever seen one with cracking issues or bracing. No way we could attempt say a top mount on a honda out of tubing. Any thoughts on this?

there are plenty of cracking issues. The thing with the subarus is there arent many U.S companies that make them. its so overloaded with the same renamed chinese b.s. I for one dont use 304 on any turbo applications before the turbo. I mainly use 321 and some inconel here and there. Inconel is just a b*atch to work with. It tears up saw blades and pretty much anything else. My tube bender luckily has lots of experience with it, but he dislikes having to bend it.

Ive always had the outlook if you use the right materials and build things correctly theres no need to add anything else to it. I havent had anything crack on me "yet". I do brace quite a few uppipes but mostly on twinscroll stuff due to the weight of the turbo and dual wastegates,etc....I also only use tial housings which keep the weight down on the turbos.

Heres a build I just finished on my bosses truck that was only supposed to be manifolds but due to the insanely crappy craftsmenship of the kit he bought I ended up rebuilding everything on the car.

Good info!

I've been wanting to make a set of subie manifolds for quite a while, wanting to build them out of pipe like a honda mani. Thanks for your time,

Building subaru manifolds out of pipe can be quite tricky, especially if your doing weld el's and straight sections. with the amount of joints you have and distance between the flanges you'll most likely have to cut it apart and add in material. With each joint you'll experience shrinkage. Unlike inline manifolds shrinkage doesnt matter as much since its one head flange connected to a floating tubro flange. Where as the boxer motors you have 2 head flanges connected by a "long" span of runners. So all that shrinkage with all those joints will throw of your initial mockup.
