Default Wheel aligment and aftermarket coilovers -- steering wheel not straight

Honestly, I dont know what i am doing i have had my civic for like two months now and it is the first car i have ever worked on.

My alignment was all screwed up, specifically the tow on the passenger side. i went to take it to a place to get it adjusted and they said they couldnt do it because of the coil overs that the car had when i bought it. so i figured it can be too hard and its worth it to try. so i adjusted the tie rod from the tie rod end to straighten out the wheel. it seems to have worked and i cross measured the wheels to make sure it was aligned. but when i took it for a test drive i noticed the steering wheel is crooked, does this mean its not aligned? or is this a problem?

It's a problem. Stop what you're doing right now. Find a place that can do alignments on whatever your set up is. They exist.

Call around and find a shop that will do a PROPER alignment.

I would rather do the job myself and learn. Yes, there is a good chance i might mess something up but we are talking about twenty year old Honda civics, not Ferrari's. If something goes wrong, **** happens. But in the end i would rather try, fail, and learn than just pay someone to do it.

My advice is absolutely sound. Take it to professionals. There are some things you do not mess with. ESPECIALLY if you have no clue.
You are not qualified to do an alignment.
You have more than likely rendered your car totally unsafe to drive. Now is NOT the time to try and do a DIY and wind up in the morgue.
I applaud your effort to try and do it yourself but this time your effort is misplaced.
An alignment is not that expensive and quite frankly you would have had it done and paid for, if the shop would have done it.

Why could they not align the car due to you coilovers?

The wheel being crooked, isn't terrible, anyoyoing as hell? Yes.

The problem is you went under there and started screwing around with it, which you should NOT have done. You NEED to take the car and have it alinged.

Not being able to do it, is complete bull ****. I have coilovers, and guess what. No one has ever had a problem doing my alignment.

He's probably got it dropped too low.

They should still be able to get the front toe in check, rear is a different story.

do not attempt an at home alignment if you don't know what you are doing. i took 4 hours and did one on my truck after i put my lift kit on, and i got it close, but the toe-in was still off enough force the camber to go very negative when reversing. if the shop can't set your alignment, tell them you atleast want the toe-in set so you can drive it to a shop that can do the full deal.

That's funny. Because you wil ultimately FAIL.

There's a reason this stuff is computerized.

So until you can buy all the computer equipment... take it to a shop.

in the mean time, take your steering wheel off and put it back on straight.

OP -- there's just no substitute for a professional wheel alignment. /thread
