Final 2K primer questions...
Ok i know i have a thread already but nobody's gonna see my question threw 3-4 pages, so...
I got a few good coats of primer over the whole car sanded more primer ect. but now that i want this to be my last coat and start sanding smooth with 400 wet then 600 wet, i cut threw an edge or two. Some edges expose metel. do i just cover with some quick self etching and continue on sanding smooth?
Also.....my trunk.
Im a little confussed on how to go about this. when wet sanding the water really has no place to go and will just sit. With the dust. Forming mud.
Should i just dry sand every thing 400 and shoot? the trunk i just need half way decent and shiny, so any help on this would be great. thanks

Read your p-sheets. Some primers it is okay to shoot over sandthroughs, others it is not. To be safe, I personally would use a touchup gun and hit those spots and sand down again.
As for the trunk, use a rubber squeegee and make a pass with it every few minutes of wet sanding. It helps alot.

yeah ill need to get the TDS and read up on that....
i cant really use a squeegee like you can when you wetsand a door laying flat....there are soooo many grooves and bumbs... could i just use a hose on the trunk and go to town wetsanding by hand and not be affraid of rusting.....I used PCL DTM primer. idk i just wanna lay paint already lol

And as for your trunk, you could probably get away with dry sanding to tell you the truth. It'll eat the paper more quickly but it is easier than trying to suck up the water.
If you do want to wetsand the trunk, use a small squeegee (they sell them at hardware stores, roughly 2 inches long by an inch wide by a quarter inch thick). These are very flexible and would be more than capable of removing water from small bumps and crevices. Then wipe up any mud that is squeeged off with a shop towel.
Thanks i needed somebody to tell me not to skimp on time. Because yeah, it takes ALOT of it. As for the trunk i think im going to just dry sand. dry sanded my bumper and it came out like glass, good enough for the outside, good enough for the inside ha. But if i do wetsand to save paper ill use the squeegee and towels for sure. thanks.
O yea, a question i forgot....when i layed my primer it was pretty darn smooth, i have seen on hotrod forums that some dont even sand the primer. is this recomended at all? or will the paint look rough?....last question ha
