New member, got a few questions
Hey All
Just introducing myself, and then I have a couple questions. I currently own 2 honda's, a 90 Accord EX & an 83 Accord LX hatchback.
Right now, Im just interested in getting them both running good, and then in the future I want to really work on the performance aspects of my 90.
K, now for my questions. On the 90, I think that one of the timing belt tensioners has come apart, b/c I pulled the valve cover off, and the cam belt had slipped off the cam gear. Im almost 100% positive that the belt isnt broken, b/c I tried pulling on the belt, and it wouldnt budge at all, so I dont think the belt is broken. When it died on me, I got the harmonic noise that a piece of metal makes right before it breaks, and then the car died on me.
What I want to know, is it difficult to change the tensioners? While Im out working on my 83 tomorrow, Im going to spend some time working on the 90, to see if it really is one of the tensioners that is causing the problem.
And for my last question. Once again, on the 90. For quite some time, we've had a problem w/ the oil light coming on. It wont come on immediatly, but after driving for awhile, it will come on, and stay on, till the car is shut down for awhile. The weird thing is that sometimes the light will come on, will flicker back off again, and then come back on. It might flicker once, and then stay on, or it might flicker for 5 or 6 minutes, before finally staying on costantly.
What I want to know, is this a symptom of a bad pressure sender? Or is the oil pump about to die?

Sorry for the slow help dude. I think I've done everything on a Honda now except a timing belt so I can't help you there. But ummm if you're gonna do the tensioner might as well do the belt too. With a Helms manual, proper tools and a weekend a novice shadetree mechanic should be able to do just about anything.
Oh as for the oil light, sorry I don't have much experience troubleshooting electrical-type problems either.
I got a '92 EX motor(F22A6)/5-speed tranny for sale
I suggest you IM Breakstuff he's the full blown pro Honda mechanic.

Well, I definatly plan on changing the belts, even if the tensioners arent messed up. THe cam belt managed to get nicked up, when it came off the gear, so thats definatly being changed.
Unless it takes some really funky tool to do any of it, Im positive that i have all the tools to do it, I work as a mechanic for a Sears Auto Center, so Ive managed to collect a pretty decent selection of tools, which makes a lot of things much easier.
