Default Does ITR B-Pipe bolt up to GSRs?

hey all

i am looking to buy an axle back unit for a GSR.... and one of my buddies has a ITR bpipe lying around. it's 2.5" mandrel bent, so its a good pipe. i'd like to use it with the axle back....

has anyone installed a stock ITR catback or b-pipe on their GSR? if so can you let me know if GSR and ITR bpipes are exactly the same shape?

thanks!

If the GS-R is a '00-'01, then the Type-R B-pipe will bolt right up. If the GS-R is a '94-'99, the B-pipe will need to be extended 4.5". The reason that the B-pipe will need to be extended for a '94'-99 GS-R is because the cat is shorter on the GS-R.

BTW, the Type-R piping diameter is 2.25". It also has the exact same shape as the GS-R B-pipe.

I just got my Type-R B-pipe extended and installed yesterday . Since the B-pipe needed to be extended, I also had a 2.5" flange installed. Why you ask??? In the near future, I'm going to install a JDM 4-1 header with a 2.5" hi-flow cat. Therefore, my B-pipe will be ready to accept the new cat.

You can go to http://www.imagestation.com/album/?id=4292381039 to see several side-by-side photos comparing the GS-R and Type-R cat-back exhaust.

great info, great pics! thanks for the help, bret....

any noticeable differences? am i right in assuming that GSR bpipe is crush-bent whereas ITR is mandrel bent?

2.25" is probably adequate for now i am guessing.. most all-motor setups probably dont require more than that. what is your setup? do you have cams?

I initially installed the just Type-R muffler section to the stock B-pipe, because the Type-R B-pipe was on back-order. I noticed that the car pulled harder from 5,000-5,500 rpm. The exhaust tone wasn't noticeably different either. Since I just had the B-pipe installed yesterday, I haven't really had enough time to make a full evaluation. But here is what I have noticed. The exhaust tone is deeper now, even at idle and the car seems to pull very strong. I will be glad to give a full evaluation in about a week, after I have had a chance to fully test the cat-back exhaust.

The Type-R cat-back exhaust is 57.2mm (2.25") mandrel bent piping [an increase of +6.4mm~8.6mm over stock] throughout to increase air flow. The muffler is a multi-chamber design, and does a wonderful job of dissipating sound. However, the funnel-shaped piping in-between the chambers makes it a very free-flowing exhaust. Furthermore, in order to lighten/strengthen the parts, stainless steel was used. The GS-R exhaust tubing is crush bent.

My motor is stock and I just have an intake. But I do have future plans of installing Type-R cams .

the ITR cat-back is a better flowing system and is mandrel bent. better yet it's quiet compared to aftermarket ones. it's good for the LS with bolt-ons and even the GSR.
