Default Middle seal tranny leak (I think)

My oil exits my tranny about once a week. When I look underneath the car, I can see the oil beading off the very bottom of the tranny, where the tranny itself bolts together, no where near the bellhousing. My shift linkage is always soaked with oil and everything is nice and shinny.

My plan is to rip the tranny out, pop the tranny apart and put some seal **** in there to cure the problem. I keep imagining however when I pop the tranny apart that gears are just going to go everywhere. Is this going to be safe and easy or is something lame going to happen?

Thanks

i'd first try to find out what exactly is leaking. you may be leaking through the shift rod seal, which you can replace without dropping the tranny.
