CAI question. breather hose
limme 1st apologise for the stupid question.
here it goes:
why do all these short-ram and cold-intake have a breather hose ( from the VC to the intake unit) ??
this breather hose is from the VC thus the crankcase is feeding hot-air into the intake !?!? wtf !? doesn't this negate the purpose of having a 'cold intake' in the 1st place if we're just feeding the TB with hot vc/crank case air?
should this be disconnected.
i figure we can just leave the tube hanging ( thus allow the VC to breathe little), but to disconnect from the intake end so the intake will only drawy cold air?
is there a simple answer?

it's done for emissions purposes, usually vision for carb legality.
you can easily put a breather filter on or a catch can. and just plug up the intake hole.

i would imagine a performance lost coz yer getting HOT air from the VC.
the reason why i bought a CAI is to get COLD air and not hot.
i'll yank the tube and see.
else, wouldn't we just DEFEAT the purpose of trying to source cold air?

yea... but why would AEM have a plug for the hose? wouldnt they be smart enough to know that if it defeats the purpose of their product they would include a small breather or something....
My guess as to why AEM wouldn't do that is because of emissions laws. I would assume that with the tube you pass emissions and with the breather you get ticketed. Don't know for sure, that's just my guess.
those lil breathers suck... u should leave the hose on there... with the hose on there, there is air being pushed into the head(i dunno what for).but, with that breather there.. air is not going into the head, but instead air is coming out. if u put that breather on there.. u will notice over time that it gets all dirty from the oil coming out in small amounts... (sort of leaking oil).. so its up to u.. have something that looks cool like a mini-filter and gets all dirty or just leave the hose there for a clean look that is actually doing what it is supposed to.
sometime due to crankcase ventilation issues oil can shoot out of the breather hole in the valve cover. if you use a filter it will allow it to breath properly plus catch any small amount of oil that may leave through that hole. you can either put a breather on it or run a line from it to the intake, either way you will notice no increase or decrease in performance as stated earlier. i recommend running a hose to it if you have to get your car inspected for emmisions.
