Default cb7 alternator belt question

old engine just removed from the vehicle was a f22a4

new engine is a f22a6

my problem is on bot the engines the alternator belt and the crankshaft pulley are rubbing into the lower timing belt cover. im guessing since i see this on my usdm f22a4 and the jdm f22a that this is a fairly common problem.

what do i do to fix this. gonna remove crank pulley and replace timing belt and covers tomorrow hopefully

They're essentially the same engine. The only thing that changed is the intake manifold so obviously something is wrong. Is something bent ?

everything on both engines seems to be fine. the crank pulley doesnt wobble or anything.

it's usually just a matter of getting the rubber retainer washer on the t-belt tensioner nut. they crack, fall off, get thrown away. a thin fender washer behind the rubber washer can help hold old warped timing covers out of the way of the belts.

you'll definately want to have this piece on there when you put the new covers on so that they don't meet the same fate as the current one.

timing belt tensioner nut. havnt never messed with the timing belt or any of that on any of my cars yet. ill be sure to check this adjuster nut and also make sure it is holding the cover down nice and tight thanks for the info. please post if there is anything else i should watch out for.

i was thinking of removing the balance shaft belts too. i know there really wont be much of a gain since it doesn't remove the shafts themselves. but will i just lose power without removing the shafts or still have a slight gain with them removed? any negative side effects on the engine doing this?

There have been some obscene claims that disconnecting the shafts are worth 20HP I highly doubt that. Now in an acceleration test it may indeed feel that way, but in a steady state comparing power at the same rpms might net 3-5HP from parasitic losses.

If this is a drag only car, sure remove them properly. But on a car that will be driven on the street as a commuter. Leave them in and attached, the smoothness from the balance shafts is quite pleasant and makes revving to the moon that much more confidence inspiring. I'm sure your engine mounts and *** will thank you from not being shaken apart from second order vibrations on your daily commute.

As for the belt covers, make sure it is properly lined up and mounted, check that the rubber seals are installed correctly, and that there are no missing bolts. If the cover is mounted correctly and bolted on, yet warped enough to cause rubbing of the harmonic damper I would recommend a set of covers.
The lower cover is only ~$25US. The covers come with new rubber seals already attached. Just make sure to use the correct shouldered bolts to prevent distortion or breakage.
