will a 1996 2.7L 6cyl engine fit into a 1996 lx 2.2 4cyl 4d body
Help guys, but I want to get rid of my automatic 2.2L 16valve non-vtech engine in the future but was wondering if anyone has done this and put the same year model non-vtech automatic 2.7L 6cyl engine into this body. Will the engine bay fit it and what is needed?

Well anything can be done w/ the right amount of $. But i don't think you would want to spend that much, you would be better off selling your current car and buy one w/ a v6 already in it. The engine mounting points are different, and the front fenders on the V6 are taller, sounds like a hole lot of work, much easier buy one w/ a v6 in it from the factory IMHOP.
Well if you were wanting to do this for performance reasons I wouldn't choose the 2.7L.
-First off, it's an auto, and not a very good auto.
-Second, the engine doesn't really produce that much more pep than the 4 banger.
-Third, as Jmb106jr mentioned, you'll be spending a good amount of money... for the disadvantages I just mentioned. Not exactly the best investment.
You'd be better off swapping to a manual for your F-series (at the very least) and then you could go forced induction. Or you could look into the 3.2L or 3.5L V6's if you really must have one.
If you really want V6 swap info, you can use the search function or google it. Plenty of people have done various V6 swaps so the info is already out there.
Good luck.

The V6 body is bigger than the 4 cylinder body. You may have noticed that when you try to buy bodyparts, there's usually a little note that says "except V6 models".
The engine will fit, but the amount of modifications needed is unknown.

I figure it was going to be too much of an hassel. I don't want power gain. just a less mile engine. Probably going to look into the automatic H22 and see if it fits.
If your not looking for power then just swap in a low mileage F22B2 and call it a day. The F22B2 is a 1/4 the price of an H22 and it's a direct swap. Unless you pick up an OBD1 F22B2, then there are a few wiring swaps that are required.

If you can't find a good one close to home. You could always order a SOHC F22B Non VTEC from a Japanese engine importer. That is the equivalent to an F22B2. Only thing is that they usually ship the older OBD1 configuration. Should ask for OBD2 96+ if possible.
