Default 91 accord dies randomly , but starts

My sons 91 Accord with auto trans. dies at random while driving, just like the key was turned off , but will restart almost immediately. Sometime it takes a bit of cranking , but there is no waiting for it to "cool" like I've seen with main relay problems. It done this 2 months ago and I replaced the ICM( ignition control module) and Coil.. seemed like problem solved till now, and it's back. Could the ICM have gone bad? or is there something else to look for ?

Probably the ignition switch, I had the same problem...it gets pitted and worn and won't keep contact intermittently seemingly without rhyme or reason. I think the part is around $70 but I don't know how much to install. Hope this helps.

thanks for the suggestion. After researching and checking all symptoms, the one thing that kept leading me back to the ICM was the erratic tach just before it died ( not a symptom of the switch)so I replaced the ICM and after driving for a couple hrs now it runs without dying.

Also, make sure that both your battery terminals are clean where it contacts the battery posts. Mine caused my speedometer to drop down low when I'm doing 70mph.

Hello all, I am new to the forum and know little to nothing about cars but I need some help with my '92 accord. I had a similar situation where my car seemed to be running fine and then randomly died as I was breaking to pull into my complex. Checked fuel filer, main relay and fuel pump and all were fine. A "friend" suggested the cat converter may be clogged. Took out the converter and replaced with a straight pipe. Car has always seemed to "burn" oil, and I've always just added oil as needed. The same "friend" added about 3 qts of oil because he noticed it was low. The car now runs worse than before. From a stop it is extremely slow to take off until about 20mph then seems to drive ok. From 0-20mph its just rough to get up and go... Suggestions or thoughts anyone? Thanks to all...

3-4 years ago I replaced the radiator, dist, spark plugs, wires, etc. Just changed out the plugs and tested the wires and they are firing fine.

3 quarts of oil! Wow that's hard to believe it was that low and didn't get a light? Have you checked it to see if it's overfilled?

Its not smoking or anything... Would over-fill of oil cause the symptoms I'm having?!
