My girlfriend has a 2000 4 cyl (f23a1?) Accord and I guess it turns out that these card were generally not the most reliable. In her case the Transmission went bad. The crappy transmissions on this thing are $1200, wtf?!
Now my question is what years are compatible to swap into this thing? I've seen other years go for around 400 and have heard they're more reliable.
Does anyone know how compatible all the years are?

Did you get it at a wrecking yard? Or from a part out?
Otherwise the 6th gen Accords are very reliable, so I'm sorry to hear someone told you this.
Obviously, the best choice would be to go 5 speed manual, but I'm guessing she can't or won't drive stick so...
As MAD_MIKE said, 98-02 is the 6th generation range. Autos from earlier model years will also bolt up (they are all in the F-series family) but it won't be quite as "plug and play."
It's up to you where you grab it from. It would be ideal to get one that you had history on (service records or whatnot) but if it has lower miles and you put new Honda ATF in it will probably do what you need it to do.
