Hey I need to replace the starter from my 89 Civic DX. I pulled it out and it has a short shaft as shown in the pic. I need to know if I can use a longer shaft starter? About another half inch longer. Its the only one I can find at any auto parts store for the year and model of my car. Thanks.

 

If the parts store says thats the one that fits your car, I don't see why not. If it was me I would install it, make sure it fits properly, and very gingerly crank it over.
