Default CH1 Accord Type-R (UK Spec)

I just bought the replacement for my Civic VTi Aerodeck (B18C4). It's a totally standard CH1 Accord Type-R (H22A). The project will be more of a tidy-up/restoration. I'd love to go all out, but the car needs to serve as a practical daily, and my S14 takes priority.

The sale was pretty fun. The seller was a Motorsports Engineer at the Mercedes F1 Engine Plant, so we got to have a poke around after the sale was handled :D

The car needs a bit of exterior TLC. The lip needs painting, and there is a small key mark on the passenger side which I will fill. The wheels also need refurbing, although it may be easier just to find a set in better condition.

There's a slight knocking from the rear which I suspect is a knackered bush or droplink. I also plan to dechrome (colour match) the grill and fit a facelift red H badge.

This is the VTi Aerodeck that it's replacing:

And this is the weekend project:

So glad you went for the prefacelift ATR. Heaven knows what Honda were doing with the facelift. Looked stupid.

This ATR is now in great hands. That I have no doubt of. Will look forward to the progress. The Nissan looks great.

Damn, i would have loved to take that Aerodeck off your hands! That thing looks awesome! Coming from someone in the United States, of course. To you guys its just an old wagon.

Great cars!

Cheers guys!

The car is getting freshened up next Friday. We're doing the valve clearances in an attempt to quieten down the engine. Full service at the same time.

Its running well, but should hopefully be even smoother next weekend!

Never thought I'd be buying another project when I bought this Accord!

We did the Valve Clearances, which has smoothed out the engine quite nicely. It still sounds a bit tappety though. Turns out most of the noise is coming from a dislodged canister under the intake mani.

We proceeded to do the cambelt, auto-tensioner and balance belt. Now the PS belt is squealing it's *** off, so thats next on the list to fix, on Friday.

I don't mind the maintenance work, once it's done it's done, and I can drive the car with peace of mind. Also on the list is the rear ARB droplinks, and front ARB bushes. Thankfully not major jobs!

No pics as yet. I'll grab some more once cleaned, lowered, and maybe some new wheels.

Just a little bump. Bought some FN2 Type-R wheels to replace the standard ATR wheels that drastically needed a refurb.

No doubt swapping 17s for 18s will upset the ATR purists, but tbh the 18s feel lighter, and I'm yet to notice any difference from behind the wheel (other than improved steering feel!).

To do:

Coilovers
Dechrome Grill
Facelift H badge

Note: One of the exhausts is missing. In the process of repairing this! Off the shelf systems cost ~£500 ($785), so not an option for the 'cheap' daily at this moment in time.

The aerodeck served its purpose very well. Bulletproof and very practical, with a B18 + LSD for when I needed to have a bit of fun.
