New 6th Gear
I love driving my S every day, but the 1/4 tank to work and back from going down the highway at 70mph at 4000rpm gets expensive. All I want is to replace is 6th, right now the gear is a .8(ish) would like to drop it to a .6 or so, so when i drive to work at 70mph its can be around 3000rpm or less. anyone ever do it or know where I can get the gear?
why dont you just change the gears in the rear end? its much simpler and less expensive than ripping apart the whole transmission....and fyi, your car is probably still getting about 22-26 mpg at that gear and that speed...you could always get a civic
This always cracks me up... people who buy performance cars and complain at the pump that its not good on gas. Power and economy are sort of always at odds with each other.
If you want to drive a two seater rag top that gets 32+mpg, there is a Miata in your future...
Honestly, if you're that worried about mpg that you're going to swap gears, why not start with some simple things?
Fresh plugs, completely clean the fuel system (pump, fulters, injectors), make sure you have a free flowing intake with a fresh filter, if you'd like, remove the cat.
Then save some weight. Remove the spare and tool kits for your commute for a AAA card... And then get skinny hard tires and always drive with the top up. I bet those actions would yield some noticeable mpg improvement.
I mean, those may sound extreme, but so is gutting your trans.

Vyndictive, let see, because I am a certified mechanic, have torn apart many transmissions before just asking if anyone has done or know where I can get the part.. the gears are good now, when driving my car like a sports car i'll never use higher than 5th.
this is so true...and i started downshifting more instead of using the brake so much and my mpg went up by 2 miles per gallon per tank...im averaging about 24 mpg which isnt bad at all for the kind of car it is
You obviously know more then all of us being that you work for Honda and are probably ASE certified. I'm sure you know more then Honda because they defiantly didnt know about gearing a car let alone how to acquire a car that gets proper gas millage. You must have asked such a simple question for your enjoyment knowing we would just have our head up our bums.
if ur a mechanic shouldnt u know where to get what u r looking for and get a discount too
just a wild guess honda dose not have what ur looking for under a part number you would have to find out the dimensions of the gear and then see if u can source it anywhere in the ratio u want. being a "mechanic" u should know this.

. . . why turn to online forums to ask the advice of a bunch of trolls and street racers if you're a mechanic?
Just pull the gear out of the trans and replace it with one that you want. You're a mechanic, make the gear you want fit the trans. Or get a machine shop to make a custom gear that fits your needs.
With all of the fuel savings, the new gear would pay for itself eventually.

using the engine to slow itself down as oppose to throwing it in neutral and braking to a stop helps gas mileage and if it doesnt, it sure as hell worked for my car...i **** you not
wow people, relax. All I asked was a simple question, have you done it or where can I get one already made? Just because I can work on cars doesn't mean I do everyday. lol. Just stating that I can do the work myself if I could get the parts.
When you use your engine to slow down you are throwing more fuel into it then if you costed to a stop. Down shifting just uses more gas and more stress on the motor.

unless if you mean with the yellowjacket
