Hunting idle..question about FITV
I have a 96 accord 4cyl v-tec. The idle hunts both when the engine is cold or warmed up. I read the sticky and searched a few posts and i am sure it has to do with the FITV.
My question is some threads say when you remove the FITV to screw the piece all the way in and some say you have to screw it in some but not all the way. What should i do?
Also, when I am by the rear of the car the exhaust sounds as if the engine is misfiring, would the FITV cause this? There is no CEL on.
I did the EGR port cleaning a month ago but that shouldnt put air in the cooling system right? I know air in the system will give you the same symptoms.
Thanks

Just take up the slack. The plastic piece should turn easily some number of turns and then get hard to turn. Stop when it gets hard to turn.
i used threadlock on mine to make sure it stayed screwed in. make sure the egr plate gasket is in good condition and all the bolts are nice and tight.
you can test the fitv valve to see if thats the problem by removing the air intake tube and with the car running place your finger over the hole on the bottom right of the throttle body.

Thanks for the input and suggestions.
I removed the FITV and was able to get it to screw in about 1 1/2 turns. I put it on and bleed the coolant system. It was still doing it so i looked around for a vacuum leak. I was looking from the side of the car and notice one of the rubber seals for the injector into the IM was squished out the bottom.
I took it apart and it was cracked and actually ripped. This must have happened when I cleaned the EGR ports but from looking at the injector from the top of the engine it was not noticeable. I am surprised it ran perfect for a month like that.
Long story short I replaced the seal and it runs great now.
