Alternator... Is your battery light on?
Battery... When it turns over, is it slow or fast? Are your really dim?
Starter... If your batter is proper most likely you burned up your starter...

Battery light is strictly for your alternator and indicates a no charge situation. Most likely your alternator is bad... if you don't want to spend the money you can take it out and have it tested at your local parts store. These test sometimes give a false reading but for the most part are accurate (mainly because the alternator is cold when tested). Do yourself a favor and put a new belt on there while you are at it.

If the alternator is bad, the car will die when your driving. Your radio will go out first. Then the car will eventually die as voltage drops lower and lower.

If the battery is bad, the car won't start (start makes weird noises). It WILL start and run fine if you give it a push and dump the clutch or jump-start it.

If you want to see something cool, pour a small pile of baking soda (not baking powder) onto that corroded terminal. Then pour a cup of water onto it. It'll fizz up good and the terminal will look brand new after one or two applications. That build-up is powdered acid, and the baking soda is a base. They react with one another and turn into salt water. The terminals should look nice & copper again.

I just cleaned off the tops of two batteries last night with this technique. Amazes me every time. I had a bit of buildup on the bars that hold the battery down. Now they look nice again.

Also, check to make sure all your grounds are tight. This buildup can be caused by loose engine or transmission grounds (or so I was told).

In a pinch you can also use Coca-Cola... (has to be name brand to work good).

Coke is acid. Putting coke on it will just disolve the powdered acid into a powerful liquid acid. That sounds not so good.

Putting a base like baking soda on will neutralize the acid. Yay!

I know all this... I said IN A PINCH... Coke will at least dissolve it then you can wash it all down... Unless you are doing heroin or something why would you be soo scared of the acid? If your terminals are so bad that it won't make a good connection and you are on the highway stranded, all you have is a bottle of Coke and a bottle of water (or pull a Bear and pee on it)... It will do the trick. You kids these days obsess the small stuff.
