Bad third gear syncro
I have an eg ferio, and third gear is really bad, pops out immediately, I'm forced to shift from 2nd to 4th. Should i replace the third gear syncro? Or, my bro brought it to my attention that I should save up for a gsr tranny, and do a full blown tranny swap... what would you do? oh it has an ls swap btw
If you decide to rebuild the transmission, use synchrotech carbon synchros, best decision I ever made. It probably wouldn't hurt to replace the synchro sleeves as well...
cheapest= get another LS transmission ugghh or if you want an upgrade get a gsr. b16 is kool but not for freeway. cheapest bang for you buck is to get a gsr w/ factory lsd, and if this is a daily driver it will be plenty enough w/ a good clutch/flywheel.
I would stay away from a GSR with factory LSD. They break internally all the time at the neck inside the LSD. They also have a final drive setup that doesn't allow you to easily swap if you ever decide to do so(has a different bolt pattern). If you have a B16 now..going to a GSR will give you longer gear ratios and lead to decreased acceleration speed vs. the B16 trans. If you have an LS trans then either will be a viable upgrade. If you are having a pop out issue it can be the following: Synchro spring, worn sleeve, gear, fork or all of them. While you are there I would upgrade the synchros to carbon which aid in high RPM shifting. Let me know if you have any further questions and feel free to PM me anytime.

I think he has the ls. Reason I was saying the gsr with factory lsd because if he's just DD it will be well enough, but if it's track car i would just rebuild what he's got with itr etc..
That broken LSD is off a DD car actually(repaired it for a friend of mine)....Just age of the transmission and you never know its prior use before it got here to the U.S.
LS swap...duhh! I should read more carefully! lol
Ya it all depends where you buy the transmission from lol could look really clean on the outside but we all know that it matters from with-in. Now that you brought it up, a gsr trans used is more likely to be beat to crap than any other.
Exactly, looks are very deceving.(sp) lol This one looked new, but was shot when we opend it up.
Fluid is not going to magically fix a damaged hard part inside a trans. So save your money on "magical" fluids. If a trans has an issue its got to be fixed no matter what. Some fluids may mask a grind problem..but its still damaged and will only get worse. Use that cash towards your GSR.
