replacing steering rack boots on 90 CRX Si
I am looking for the correct lube to put in there, and how much/how
mechanically minded, not entirely up on the correct vocabulary - make as much fun of me as you want -
and i'll try not to use the technical terms "thing-ee" or "dew-hicky" too often
I've done a few half hard things on this car with good results and no bad mistakes - fuel pump replace/drop gas tank - CV joints - brakes/rotors - brake master cylinder replace - a couple relays - change out door window glass - new non-stock muffler - this and that - and yep, i change my own oil and purge the brake lines, et c et c -
I want to do a better than professional job, and make this car last
The old boots have been torn for some time, but not wide open - I know I'm going to have to do some cleaning, if not quite a bit
What is the OEM grease that goes on the teeth and shaft of rack there, under the boots -
I've looked until my eyes hurt, through the posts - haven't found the info I seek
I'm not looking for the short-cut, thanks anyway, I am looking for the knock down, drag out, 'white glove' solution, thank you very very much
I have the Honda shop manual for this car, and it does not specify
your advice is seriously appreciated - thanks

Any ball-joint grease from the autoparts store will do. I think I use a gold colored can from Autozone. The stuff lasts pretty well. I've used it for over 10 years on my cars ball-joints & steering.
According to the OEM manual:
- lightly grease either end of the rack (so air can still move through the channels)
- grease around the inner tie-rod ball-joints (not too much that it will drip)
- lightly grease the outside of the inner tire rod joints (where the boot will touch)
- lightly grease the inside ribs of the boot (where it will touch the inner tie rod)
BTW: When rebuilding your rack, replace the inner rack bushing. It's the plastic guide inside the passengers side of the steering gearbox. It's what the actual rack slides on on that end. It's a PITA to get it out, but well worth the trouble. It's cured many many peoples suspension problems (including my own).
Here is a very helpful thread on rebuilding your steering gearbox:
