Default Oil Consumption!

Take this as a FWIW:

Just pulled the head off of a friend's GSR with 60,000 miles since he had some oil in his antifreeze and we suspected a leak. He had been going through a lot of oil even though the block had been recently replaced by Acura

Everything looked pretty good except for the cr*p caked on the stems of his exhaust valves. Looking closer the machine shop found that the exhaust guides were shot (intake side was fine) and has suggested that was the cause of the oil consumption.

The GSR has had its oil changed every 3,000 miles with Mobil 5-30 synthetic.

So, if you are going through a lot of oil, especially Mobil Synthetic, this is an area you might want to check. Its my understanding that the build-up on the valve stems is a good clue.

Anyone have a similar experience?

John
