so 3 of my pistons broke the second and third ring lands but the first look perfect, these where the nippon b series "vitaras" got tuned to 420 whp and after a few street pulls got blow by, took head off and pistons looked great pulled them out and 3 had broken second and third ring lands but the top looks fine, any one ever hear or see such a thing? how is this even possible?

 

It's possible, have already seen 2 piston with second and third ring land broken
you have more pressure on the 2nd and 3rd ringland

 

well then i guess im not the first to see this.

 

mine had the same issue. nippons r cast pistons i believe. go forged wit that kinda power

 

Check your rings. If the ends are shiney, then they were butting and caused the ring lands to crack. 99% of the time, thats how the lower ring lands break when the tops are fine.

 

checked rings they dont look like they butted. must have been something else.
