Default 02 4cyl auto trans question. please help.

I have a 02 4 cylinder with an automatic trans and I am in the process of pulling the trans to replace it with a rebuilt one. My question is, do you have to pull the motor to pull the trans or can you separate the two and pull just the trans? Do you have to pull it out of the top or will it drop out of the bottom? Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

no, the motor doesn't have to come out with it.

be aware though that there is only one mount holding the motor in once the transmission is out. it's a good idea to give it some additional temporary support until the replacement trans is back in. a jackstand and a block of wood, a 2x4 or other sturdy beam accross the engine bay with a chain holding the motor up. you get the idea.

if it's even possible to pull it through the top, it's more trouble than it's worth. i've always dropped them out the bottom.
