The ac went out in our 02 type s 2.5 years ago, we went without for a year and a half or so, then last year we replaced the compressor, condenser, and lines as well as put in a new fan motor. The ac works, but it's not very cold. At idle it puts out almost no cool air, and at highway speeds it cools, but is never cold. After driving at highway speeds for 30-40 minutes it finally starts working decently but it's not near as cold as when the car was new.

I know jack about ac systems. My father in law did most of the work, he used to own a shop so he has the proper evacuation machines, and we had the dealer refill the system. I know that the system is not functioning properly, but I have no clue what it is. My father in law is too disabled to help right now, so I can't defer to him.

My wife primarily drives the car, and she doesn't complain about it, but I drove it the other day and realized how bad it sucks. I'd really like it get it fixed for her.

Anyone know about ac systems and have any suggestions about parts I can trouble shoot? I'm fine paying a professional, but if I can lessen the costs it would be great because I have things on my car, and one of my bikes to fix as well.

 

we must be the only ones melting away in this awful, sweltering 108* Texas day time heat wave that won't end.

Any input would be great, I'd like this car to keep running as well as it has been.
