Default Will a 1997 EX engine & tranny swap into a 2000 ex directly?

Will the engine and transmission from a 1997 EX sedan swap into a 2000 EX sedan without any modifications? Both have the stock engines with no modifications.

Thanks

What transmissions?

The 97 is OBD2a and the 00 is OBD2b, so you may need some of the 97 wire harnesses and the ECU.

Wow, sorry. Sometimes I forget there is another way to drive besides a manual. They are both manual transmissions.

How hard would a project like this be? I've replaced my transmission and clutch before but I'm just an amateur with a service manual and no formal training. I do have an engine lift though.

Do you have the complete engine (distributor, alternator, etc) from the old engine? If so the only real difference between the 97 and 2000 D16Y8 is the distributor, air injection portions of the intake manifold system and exhaust manifold. You can just bolt the 2000's distributor up to the 97 engine. Reuse the 00's exhaust manifold. Everything else should be plug and play. No need to swap harnesses.

both are pretty much plug and play as mentioned above 99-00 have air injection and all you would have to do is swap your intake manifold and its all plug and play use all of your original harness and ecu.

to make it easy on yourself just swap dizzys and you should be good. i dont think that youll throw a code for the air injectors in the manifold but im pretty sure youll be ok

Thats great info. Thanks for everyone's help. Why I was asking is I have a 97 civic ex that I got rear ended in by a pickup truck and is now totaled. I bought a 2000 civic ex as a replacement but wanted to transfer over my better condition engine & tranny, sound system..... before I turn in my 97 to the insurance company. I had just replaced my tranny with a rebuilt one from Synchrotech last year due to the input shaft bearing failing and I put in a new clutch and throw-out bearing at the same time.
